The Ford F-150 engine options are more extensive, with six options including everything from a standard V-6 to a top-tier supercharged V-8. Though there are half as many 2024 Ram 1500 engine options, the same bases are covered, including a standard V-6 and an available supercharged V-8.
While the Ford F-150 specs involve more engines, the Ram 1500 provides a notable advantage: a standard hybrid engine.
Specifically, Ford F-150 vs. Ram 1500 standard engines involve a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 in the F-150 and a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with eTorque mild-hybrid capabilities in the Ram 1500. This F-150 engine makes 325 horsepower, beating out the Ram 1500 engine’s 305 horsepower. However, the Ford F-150 MPG rating with the PowerBoost full-hybrid V-6 and 4WD is an EPA-estimated 22/24 MPG (City/Highway),1 which exceeds the Ram 1500 MPG rating with the Pentastar mild-hybrid engine and 4WD: an EPA-estimated 19/24 MPG (City/Highway)1
Neither truck will disappoint; the new Ford F-150 for sale has more power, but the Ram 1500 specs do include more MPGs without the need to upgrade.
While the 2024 Ford F-150 vs. Ram 1500 comparison was a healthy exchange of blows for overall specs, the F-150 is the uncontested champion for towing and payload ratings. The Ford F-150 towing capacity, specifically, is a maximum of 13,500 pounds,3 which overshadows the highest Ram 1500 towing capacity by 750 pounds.3
The highest Ford F-150 weight rating for payload capacity is 2,445 pounds,4 which is 145 pounds more than the Ram 1500 can offer.5
The new Ram 1500 for sale, however, does achieve that payload rating with its hybrid Pentastar engine. The F-150 payload capacity with a hybrid engine is a maximum of 1,755 pounds.4

From the Ford F-150 transmission to the available bed lengths, the Ford truck offers more flexibility. It offers three cab styles and a trio of bed lengths. In comparison, there are two Ram 1500 bed size options and two Ram 1500 cab styles.
